Erica Taylor was first introduced to yoga as a toddler, when her mother taught her poses out of a children’s yoga book.
She played many sports growing up: from running down the basketball court or field hockey field, to long jump, hurdles and high jump on the track. But it wasn’t until her early twenties, while working 60+ hours a week at a high-stress finance job, that Erica felt the true mind-body connection of yoga. Erica found that yoga helped to restore her body and mind from the effects of stress, and to stay connected to that place of inner peace and innate wisdom. The impact of yoga was so profound that she decided to leave her career in finance and pursue yoga full-time, feeling called to help others as she was helped by yoga.
She completed her 500-hour Interdisciplinary Yoga training with Don and Amba Stapleton at the Nosara Yoga Institute in Costa Rica. The program, a blend of vinyasa yoga and therapeutics, instilled in Erica the importance of bringing awareness and curiosity to each experience, and to honor the teacher within us all. The program’s emphasis on self-inquiry combined with the rhythm of the jungle and the vastness of the ocean created a backdrop for Erica’s deep dive into yoga that she holds dear and sacred in her being. She was honored to return to Nosara for several years to assist their teacher training and program-manage the Experiential Anatomy training.
Erica continues to have a passion for learning about movement and the body, and her studies have included prenatal and postnatal yoga with Jane Austin and Barrett Reinhorn, therapeutic yoga with Harvey Deutch, yoga nidra, somatics, chinese medicine, myofascial meridians, athletic strength and conditioning, and posture reading. As a result of these studies, she is certified by Titleist as a fitness professional for golf, a personal trainer by the National Strength and Conditioning Association, and a Massage Practitioner with a specialty in Acupressure. She holds an E-RYT 500 designation with Yoga Alliance and is a Registered Prenatal Yoga Teacher with over 150 hours of prenatal and postnatal training.
One of Erica’s greatest adventures has been the physical, mental and emotional transformation of becoming a mother. She feels honored to help guide fellow mamas and mamas-to-be during this time, using yoga as a tool to help balance the effort and ease required for such a profound and life-changing journey.
Drawing inspiration from her loved ones, students, and life experiences, her classes are uplifting and playful yet rooted in alignment and the great inquiry of the self.
In addition to being a yoga teacher and a mom, Erica is also a professional photographer! Check out her work here.
